Stroll Along Beach Front & Poetry Slam

A nice easy going Saturday morning with later start after having first full good night sleep since arriving after time travel affects, new stimulating culture, etc. - sleep elixir for the body & mind.  Strolled by little beach front shops - food kiosks, full size restaurants and tourist type collectibles shops, some of which were little higher quality than others.  Sampled a delicious fresh grilled pork satay 🍒and exquisite fresh ripe mango πŸ₯ - have yet to find a bad mango or for that matter any other passion or Jack fruit, papaya, mangosteen, pineapple, durian or yet to be tried fruit, I’m sure.

Little local fruit and veggie stand on our street

 Cafes, eateries abound....

Can you just taste this mango - wish I could make virtual one available for you, so good......
Another temple entrance - temples everywhere.....

 Rental toys...

 The best mango πŸ₯ ever!

This is women that comes by while we’re at Genius Cafe everyday to hawk mangoes πŸ₯ at greatly increased tourist prices but this is her home lair with her daughter......they’re lively and funny, especially since David likes to flirt with them, getting laughs.

Bought a locally woven palm Indonesian cone style hat for doing yard work at home in the desert.  Much more functional being light, cooler and less troubled by sweat than all my various other hats I use for the occasion, depending on conditions which usually is forecast as - HOT.  I had been thinking of getting one like similar one I wore operating heavy equipment back in the seventies when the aftermath of the Vietnam war still had a nasty impact for many on both sides of the issue.  I got some harassment once in a while for wearing it on job sites - you a gook lover?, look like a girly man, you must hate America, that sort of thing but used it as my “practice” of sorts in understanding and having compassion for others points of view, admittedly tweaking them a bit the more they couldn’t get past their prejudices. Seems as those sort of sentiments are prevalent again today - we must not tire in overcoming ignorance......all this brought back from buying a hat.......

David introduced me to a former local carpenter who turned to traditional Balinese wood carving and has a wonderfully carved large elephant from him, very nice work........reminds me of beautiful elephant quilt Carol made a number of years ago -  we named it Ellie and now finds it home on my former office mates office wall in NYC.  I think this elephant is Ellie’s mate.....

ELLIE 🐘

.....may take  home a unique carving to go with our eclectic collection of art and other cultural artifacts, not this large of course, plus be hard pressed to find room in our house for it!

I understand that this lovely charming boardwalk area up to Genius Cafe and hotel is slated to be leveled and more resort type development with marina built in its stead - that’s what some call progress and the way of the world.  These locals who have had their business here for a long time are not happy I’m sure but will have to adapt - also the way of the world, never ending changes.......

Back at Genius for excellent Mahi fish & chips, young coconut water. Our mango hawker must have followed on our heels and figured we would pay her higher tourist prices where we always see her -funny.  David buys from her anyway and even gives her extra because he likes her, helps her out and still a looootttt cheaper than the States.

Hard at work...beats most office environments...

Geniuses at work - please disturb....🧐πŸ€ͺ

While I was sitting, writing and eating I would occasionally look up and invariably see this “gaggle of girls”, my term from watching Doc Martin on PBS where a funny and cheerful “gaggle of girls” always shows up in the village scenes, and see these girl pals having a fun time flocking around together - made me smile and chuckle 🀭........
