A Day In Abud - Part Il

 PYRAMIDS of CHI

A Day in Abud - Part ll ......Or also known as - Yesterday-Today, then day After Yesterday-Today which is Today again.  🥴Confused?  Pray or prayer equivalent for me - the warping of time continues on Bali island in the Indian Ocean, just west of the North Pacific Ocean which I misstated somewhere in past blog as the Pacific Ocean.  Oh my, more proof of the “condition my condition is in, 🎼”  I suspect 🤔!  Onward...

I begin this writing today in front courtyard with Bandi doggette barking at the sound of the rhythmic beating of a bucket drum by a vender of some sort walking down the street and the fiber brush strokes of David sweeping up the daily fallen white frangipani and red bougainvillea flowers.  The usual birds are chirping away along with roosters crowing but also interspersed is the unusual full throated croaking of Geckos. 🦎listen here > https://youtu.be/EI67Uwp18dc   Have you ever noticed that when you travel, you become more attuned to sights, sounds and smells - the ordinary becomes more accentuated as compared to the habituation to these same sounds that can become dull and unnoticed on the home front..... one of the reasons perhaps, we humans like to travel and maybe monkeys have a little of that too, a presage of their evolutionary change in progress to become - Us.

We were last seen leaving the Hippie Fish cafe for the promised, “possibly”, mystical life changing experience of the Pyramids of Chi.  Well now, who could “possibly” pass that up you say?  Not us, to be sure - we would feel remiss in our daily spiritual quest if we didn’t avail ourselves of this opportunity to expand our consciousness.  David or I (sorry David, but I just can’t use Me in this sentence structure- inside joke of sorts, continuing debate of grammatical use and I’m probably wrongly assuming he would use here) have never been much interested in what appears to be a continuation of The of Aquarius ♒️ New Agey thing which I have certainly partaken in over the years at times, but he felt emboldened that with me bravely in tow we could re-enter The Age to scope it out for possible future visitations of friends and family - or not.  Now to be fair, especially since I could be subject to vindictive online accusations of Extreme lack of open mindedness or worse, death 😳, we are just going 🐘🐘🐘🐘🐘 and expected it would be at least pleasant  or worse or boring.

We drive a little ways out of the edge of town on a winding road climbing slightly up into the hills, beautiful green terraced rice paddies about, up a final steep incline into the very small drop off area and head for registration.  As we walk around the corner into the entrance, the grounds at eye level and shallow valley below opens up with view of  temple and pyramids ^^^ - beautiful, nicely manicured and laid out.  Ponying up 300,000 Rupiah, all those zeroes make me feel rich but it’s only $21.41 which is a really a princely sum by Bali standards, we are handed eye pillows filled with volcanic sand from sacred volcano Mt. Batur,  https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mount_Batur  , given instructions on what to expect and how to behave, good luck on that, as we sip a calming ginger infused healthy green drink in the large lobby overlooking the pyramids.  At the sound of the gong we loosely file down the descending flower and pond lined path, take our shoes off and enter into the sacred pyramid. The center sort of pit area has gongs, drums and other musical instruments arrayed in an orderly arrangement - command central. There are two rows of thin mattress pads with neatly arranged leg and neck pillows in a line around  this instrument pit and everyone finds a place that feels right for them.  We arbitrarily choose the outside row with head facing the center, cover our eyes with sacred sand pillows and wait for the show to commence.

The sound of a gong starts things off, just like any beginning to a Zazen or other meditation practice.  Then begins a series of cascading sounds that swirl around the room - many different chimes, drums, wooden clappers, flute, cymbals, electonica - all changing in tempo and volume, swirling swirling swirling like so many swallows flying about at sunset.  Intermittently the flow changes to a subtle calm before picking up again, changing directions?  It is actually quite an interesting and pleasant experience although at some point I feel, that’s about enough of this beginning to verge on racket sound, but manage to surrender and carry on with meditation.  We were told that people may naturally go into the deep and desirable Theta State and possibly snortal or snore at which point an angel attendant would gently touch you on the shoulder to break the snoring.  I got just such a touch, what felt like a very long shoulder “massage” , but I was ABSOLUTELY awake, aware, not snoring, why is she doing this, feels good-keep doing it, stop this inappropriate intrusion of my boundaries, it’s not ME snoring angel - it’s David next to me!!  So there.....🤣

Session over not a minute too soon, we groggily stumbled our way out into the bright sun feeling duly, something akin to something, wandered the grounds which were surrounded by jungle and some cleared farm land and some steep ravines.  There was an interesting series of raised ponds that were being used for Aquaponics and we chatted a bit with a guy who was preparing for the next crop.

What will we become after our immersion experience 🤔.......

The Third Eye perhaps.....

Concluding our stay, we wandered out to the winding road, found Komangs car, spotted him sitting in a field chatting with the farmer, hailed him over and headed for town with a few hours to kill before our last major venue, a traditional Balinese LeGong dance.

Back in town as dusk descended we wandered the very crowded sidewalks and streets deciding to get out of hustle and bustle and wait at Cafe Lotus, have some tea and I had a tasty little lime tart.

TO BE CONTINUED.....
Alas and anon the day has gotten away from me and I must use one more days blog post to finish the ABUD narrative
