Rambling Thoughts by The Sea

Today is a day of rest, hang-time by the beach under the thatched roof and bamboo open air patio of Genius Cafe.   It’s a nice place to lounge, good food and drink young coconut water, with access to wifi, people watch and have conversations with folks from all over the world, listen to good live and recorded music, views of boats in the bay and surfers further out beyond the reef.  Ocean breezes make it more tolerable then the humid heat as you walk around town hunting for the shady side of the street while avoiding the motorbikes constantly zooming around, some with a family of four on one scooter - never be allowed in US but main source of affordable transportation here in Bali.  Not much police presence here, at least that is noticeable and certainly not when it comes to traffic control - NONE that I can tell.  Everyone seems to have a cooperative way of dealing with each other, no impatience and very accommodating.  What appears as outrageous driving behavior and would bring on angry retribution, sometimes exchange of blows or worse in America don’t ever seem to happen here - shrug, wait, and carry on seems to be prevailing attitude - a wonder to behold.  I will no doubt do a dedicated article about transportation as well as other cultural differences that no doubt will arise.

  1. Love the night time driving scenes. Truely would not want to ride a scooter! Beaches and cafes look like perfect places to change gears and reset.
Links are nice addendum to your blog. Frangipane one very interesting which led to pointers on do's and don'ts in Bali. Right hand always and death penalty for drug use. Got it!
Chat Sunday whenever it works for you. Ciao brother!
